1、Marie Curie Fellow Positions, Large-scale Structural Simulations, Akselos

The company Akselos (Lausanne, Switzerland) is interested in hosting Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellows under the Society & Enterprise Panel.

Possible topics of research include (but not restricted to):

- Structural non-linear analysis (plasticity, large deformations,

contact), especially with structural elements (beams and shells)

- Composite modeling

- Sensor data assimilation in the context of structural analysis

(accelerometers, strain gauges)

- Machine learning applied to failure detection

The MSCA Society & Enterprise Panel is dedicated to career opportunities for researchers seeking to work on research and innovation projects in an organisation from the non-academic sector. It has a separate budget from standard MSCA academic fellowships, and the success rates for applicants is double compared to academic fellowships (30% instead of 15% on average). Criteria for eligibility:

- At the date of the call deadline, the applicant should hold a PhD or have at least 4 years of research experience.

- The applicant cannot have resided more than three years in Switzerland in the five years immediately before the call deadline.

Deadline for application is Sept 12, 2018 and in case of success, the starting date is March 2019 at the earliest.

2、Postdoc Positions, Mathematical Optimization(FAU, Germany)

Two postdoc positions available in mathematical optimization at the Friedrich-Alexander-University at Erlangen-Nurnberg (FAU), Erlangen, Germany with a focus on energy system optimization. The optimization group at FAU has more than twenty-five years of experience in modeling and solving complex and very large-scale planning and decision problems from logistics, energy, production, engineering, and the natural sciences, see mso.math.fau.de/de/edom. Their key expertise is in developing and applying models and algorithms, which yield proven optimal solutions to optimization problems. This involves techniques like linear, nonlinear, and integer programming, robust optimization, graph algorithms, polyhedral combinatorics, and the like. Furthermore, design of efficient heuristics and exact algorithms together with effective implementations is key expertise. The chair EDOM - Economics, Discrete Optimization, Mathematics (Chair Wirtschaftsmathematik) consists of 20+ PhD students and Postdocs, and is headed by Frauke Liers, Alexander Martin, Lars Schewe, and Martin Schmidt. The group participates in many projects funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG), the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), as well as by the industry.

The positions are for a period of at least one year with a longer term perspective and may start as soon as July 2018. It is expected that during their career, candidates have gained expertise in one or more of the following areas:

- mixed-integer linear and nonlinear optimization

- optimization under uncertainty, especially robust optimization

- modeling and optimization of energy systems

You should be interested in developing and implementing optimization algorithms. You should also like to work in interdisciplinary teams with real-world data.

Open PhD position in Lyon: “Hydrogen based Dynamically Robust & Optimized Green Energy systems (HYDROGEN)”

Hydrogen is the only carbon-free storable fuel. When combined with renewable energy sources (wind, solar, hydro, wave and tidal), it has the potential to become one of the main contributors of a sustainable future as a green energy vector.

HYDROGEN project aims to handle dynamic management of a decentralized Power-to-Hydrogen system where electricity is converted into hydrogen fuel for a zero-emission mobility. Multiple economic agents with conflicting interests are involved in the renewable electricity-based hydrogen supply chain.

This PhD thesis will focus on the tactical decision level that encompasses several issues: production scheduling, transportation policies, inventory management, safety stock sizing... The objectives and constraints of different stakeholders along with their relationships with each other at varying time granularity (year, month, day etc.) will be defined. The most suitable modelling approaches for each problem will be combined with efficient solution methodologies.

Uncertainties of the system notably come from electricity generation (due to varying natural conditions), variability of energy prices in the energy spot market and demand fluctuation. These uncertainties will be addressed in the modelling part.

We are offering a 3-year PhD thesis -expected to be ANR funded- at PersEE Innovation, a Lyon based startup company (Sezin Afsar), in collaboration with Toulouse Laboratoire de Génie Chimique, CNRS (Catherine Azzaro-Pantel) and Toulouse Business School (Gilles Lafforgue). The thesis will be based on modeling and solving different problems described above. Different types of real-life or realistic data will be available for testing.

Keywords: supply chain management, renewable energy, hydrogen, stochastic optimization, multi-objective optimization, game theory.

Required Technical Skills:

· Master’s degree or equivalent in Industrial Eng, Computer Science, Applied Math or any relevant subject *from a European institution*

· Experience in Python/C/C++ and solvers such as GAMS, CPLEX or Gurobi.

· General knowledge of mathematical programming and optimization. Expertise in stochastic and integer programming is an advantage.

· Familiarity with at least one of relevant fields (energy systems, renewable energy, scheduling, supply chain management, metaheuristics…)

· Being open to new ideas and innovations

· Willingness to contribute to a cleaner future

· Speaking French is a plus

The aim of this conference is to provide researchers from different areas of Operations Research, with the opportunity to present and discuss their results and research on the field of Network Optimization, in an inspiring and bridge building environment where fruitful ideas may flow freely, see the websiteinoc2019.sciencesconf.org.

The authors are invited to submit their papers describing original, previously unpublished research results and not currently under review.

There are two types of submissions:

full papers

(4-6 pages using the two-columns ACM SigConf templateseafile.lirmm.fr/f/317d )

and extended abstracts (1-2 pages, free template).

Authors of rejected full papers will be given the possibility to submit them as extended abstracts. Accepted full papers and extended abstracts will be available in the conference material. There will also be a special issue of the Networks journal, Wiley, associated with the conference.

In order to support the open access initiative (with no publication fees for authors), we have decided to publish accepted full papers in open access at openproceedings.org, with doi and indexed in dblp (possibly Scopus). Hence, the authors will keep the copyright of all material published in the proceedings.
